Sponsor: Sony Foundation AustraliaSony Foundation Australia is the charity arm of the Sony Group of Companies operating in Australia. Its aim is to capitalise on the unique qualities of Sony to contribute to the Australian community by assisting youth and fostering their talents.Since its creation in 1999, Sony Foundation has raised over $15 million for youth focused charities and causes. In the past year, Sony Foundation has continued to champion the rights of young people providing support to those falling between the gaps whether this be through providing access to drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs; life changing holiday camps for children with special needs; or advocating to provide desperately needed age appropriate services and treatment for youth cancer patients. Specifically, our flagship program the Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camps, in 2011, involved the donation of $250,000 to fund the 22 camps held across Australia for over 500 children with special needs. The camps are hosted at high schools with year 11 and 12 students becoming the primary carers of the children over four days. The camps hosted children with special needs including Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Asperger’s Syndrome, Mitochondrial Disease, Angelman Syndrome, Dravet Syndrome and a range or other unique conditions. http://www.sonyfoundation.org.au |
